I agree, with any big change, it's so hard not to want to be "there" already. "There" changes from person to person and from time to time, and it's easy to forget how far we've come!

I mentioned on the phone that I had gained about half the weight at this point in my pregnancy that I had gained with Naomi. I really can only attribute it to having a better diet and a much more active lifestyle. I know I haven't eaten any less, that's for sure! :) Even though when I was pregnant the first time, we were on our way to eating healthier, we weren't any where close to where we are now.

At this point, my/our next goals are to invest in a milk animal (goat or cow) as soon as possible and to start fermenting as many things as I can. ;) First on my list is water kefir and kombucha, I'd love to have something "special" to drink that was so beneficial.

You have a great blog, I'll be subscribing!

Excellent post, Cindy. I've been mulling over a similar post for my blog. I think the key to any change for the better is to find pleasure in what is healthier and slowly transition.

Heather and I started off our relationship arguing over how often I ate fast food meals. It was about 90% of all my meals at the time. As we shopped at Whole Foods Market more and more often, I found myself sampling all the samples and getting excited about trying this new thing or that.

The awesome thing about Whole Foods is that they have so many premium and gourmet products. I coupled the experience of eating something gourmet with organic / healthy and found myself loving certain foods I had been missing out on.

Granted, vegetables are the most difficult transition for me and I'm still in early stages of appreciation. But I savor the raw milk, the natural cheeses, the grass fed organic beef, and so on. They are foods that taste REALY good and are also better for me than anything I ate for 20 years prior.

It's not the cheapest lifestyle, but I LOVE food and want to savor it, so I still get the gourmet treats now and then as a reminder that the best things in life are healthy. :)
